5 Questions to Ask at the Mattress Store

Everyone sleeps. It's a natural and necessary part of life, so it stands to reason that we should all have the best mattress possible. That said, what constitutes "best" is highly subjective and can depend on anything from personal preference to medical issues. An excellent place to start in the quest for your perfect mattress is by asking five questions at your local mattress store.

1. What's The Most Popular Mattress?

The first question is a simple one. Most mattress stores have a display model that they can tell you is their best-selling unit, so ask about it and sit down for a moment to test it out.

While affordability will play a role in any purchase you make, later on, comfort is the primary goal. Of course, while you're testing the most popular model, you'll be surrounded by other more expensive and cheaper mattresses. Please make a point to test those out as well and compare them to your initial pick.

2. Do You Deliver?

The mattress you buy will almost certainly need to be shipped, so ask about it. Some stores will offer free delivery and set-up, while others may charge an additional fee. In any case, make sure you're at least aware of how much delivery will cost before going through with a purchase.

3. Do You Have A Warranty?

Most mattresses come with a significant warranty that lasts anywhere from one to ten years. Asking about the specifics of the warranty is a good idea because it will give you an idea of how the company stands behind its product.

4. What's Your Return Policy?

Unfortunately, all mattresses are not created equal, so even if you find one that seems perfect on paper, it might not be for you once you get it home and actually sleep on it. A smart question to ask is what the store's return policy is. Many stores will offer some kind of trial period or even a full refund if you're not satisfied with the mattress you choose.

5. Can I Try It Out?

The last question to ask is if you can test the underlying foundation underlying the mattress. This not only ensures that there's a suitable and even surface for you to sleep on but also gives you an idea of how well-built and sturdy your potential purchase might be.

The most popular size of mattress sold in the United States is twin-size, accounting for 31% of the market share. However, this does not mean that it is best for you. Make sure to test the mattress to make sure it is a good fit for you.
